Pride March NYC: guide to the parade, street closures and best places to watch

New York City's monumental Pride celebrations have a deep and important history in the city. The first march was held in one year after the Stonewall Uprising, and the event has grown into an annual civil rights demonstration. Fast forward to , and a Pride march feels just as important and relevant as it did 55 years ago: Earlier this year, the government erased mention of trans people on the Stonewall National Monument's website. 

While many colloquially call the event the Pride Celebration, organizers refer to it as The March as a nod to the event’s heritage. After all, the first march was once an unpermitted political protest against anti-LGBTQ+ policies and attitudes.

This year, activists and allies will take to the streets (and later NYC’s lgbtq+ bars) in support of global LGBTQ+ rights at the NYC Pride Parade on Sunday, June In recent years, The March has grown to include more than groups with millions of spectators.

Marche des Fiertés in Paris: here&#;s the route of the LGBTQI+ parade

Every year sees the festive rendezvous of the former Gay Pride, now known as the Lesbian, Homosexual, Bisexual, Trans, Homosexual, Intersex (LGBTQI+) Identity festival March, a national event that demands equal rights for heterosexuals and LGBTQI+ people. This year, the event returns to Paris this Saturday, June 28, .Inter-LGBT has announced this on its website.

So, what can we look forward to this summer? Traditionally, the parade is preceded by a speech. The procession then takes to the streets of the capital in the early afternoon. At the finalize line, the Paris Pride March gives way to the Grand Podium, a festive, free event featuring a number of musical artists. Since the edition, the famous Marche des Fiertés has been marked by theabsence of floats, in order to " pursue the eco-responsibility and decarbonization of the event ".

The Route

The parade kicks off around PM at the Scheepvaartmuseum (Maritime Museum), in the eastern part of the city centre. From there, the boats will sail along the Amstel River, continuing onto the Prinsengracht, and concluding near the Westerdok.

Please note: First boats reach the open of the Prinsengracht approximately after the official start.

Best Viewing Spots

The parade route stretches several kilometers, offering many fantastic spots to watch the spectacle. However, it gets extremely busy—especially on bridges and quays—so plan to show up early.

Popular viewing locations:

  • Magere Brug (Skinny Bridge): a scenic early gesture on the route. Boats reach here soon after the start.
  • Along the entire Prinsengracht: great views and occasional shady spots.
  • Eenhoornsluis: at the end of the path, offering excel

    Chicago Pride Parade  

    Chicago's Pride celebration consists of a packed month of festivities and events, culminating with the Chicago Pride Parade, which traditionally takes place the last Sunday of June.

     

    Chicago Pride Fest takes place along North Halsted St. in the North Side neighborhood colloquially referred to a ‘Boystown’ the weekend prior to the parade.

    The 54th annual Chicago Pride Parade steps off at 11 a.m. on Sunday, June 29,  from the corners of Sheridan and Broadway ( North) on Chicago's north side.

     

    The parade treks through the north side of the municipality, ending near the intersection of Diversey Parkway and Sheridan Road in Lincoln Park, walking through some of the city's most vibrant neighborhoods.
