Nickelodeon has hinted that known animated character, SpongeBob SquarePants could be homosexual in a recent tweet celebrating Pride month.

Fans assume that the kids broadcaster has confirmed the character’s sexuality on 13 June, in the tweet honouring its LGBTQ+ stars.

Nickelodeon wrote: ‘Celebrating #Pride with the Homosexual community and their allies this month and every month.⁣’


All characters featured in the tweet &#; SpongeBob, Schwoz Schwartz from Henry Danger, and Korra from Avatar spin-off Legend of Korra, have a rainbow hue.

Korra is a bisexual person while actor Michael Cohen, who plays Schwoz Schwartz, is a transgender. On the other hand, SpongeBob’s sexuality has long been discussed and re-discussed in articles, and fan theories since early s coming to conclusions if the character is gay.

For many admirers, Nickelodeon’s tweet confirms that he is a member of the Diverse community. Fans responded to the tweet, with praises for Nickelodeon for the announcement.

Both of those characters are acknowledged members of the network’s LGBTQ+ community.

Spongebob’s sexuality has been a topic of discussion for many years now and certain episodes own contributed to the speculation.

While Twitter users quickly came to the conclusion Spongebob was gay, others pointed out that Nickelodeon didn’t explicitly confirm that.

Nickelodeon is celebrating Pride month with a tweet that has social media buzzing about SpongeBob Squarepants' sexual orientation – again.

"Celebrating #Pride with the LGBTQ+ community and their allies this month and every month," the network tweeted Saturday along with photos of SpongeBob, Avatar Korra from "The Legend of Korra" and Michael D. Cohen from "Henry Danger."

Cohen shared that he transitioned from female to male about 20 years ago and Korra identifies as bisexual, departing social media to speculate that SpongeBob is part of the LGBTQ+ collective as well.

Nickelodeon turned off comments and replies to their tweet, but it didn't prevent Twitter from coming to conclusions.

"I don’t care if spongebob is asexual, bisexual or same-sex attracted, I stan him," tweeted @ApolloLXXXIX.
