Major League Soccer announced that Galaxy midfielder Sebastian Lletget will be suspended for two games for his use of an anti-gay slur in an Instagram video that has since been deleted.
The video, which was posted April 9, was immediately taken down. It was of Lletget playfully slapping teammate Julian Araujo on the help of the neck, with Lletget calling him the slur. MLS opened an investigation following being made aware of the video.
Lletget, who played in the Galaxy&#;s win Sunday against Inter Miami, apologized for using the slur. He will miss Sunday&#;s game against New York Red Bulls and the May 2 match in Seattle.
Lletget was also fined an undisclosed amount and is required to attend diversity, equity and inclusion coaching through Athlete Ally.
The league added that it &#;acknowledges and appreciates Lletget’s prompt apology and the accountability he has taken for his actions.&#;
