It's always heartbreaking to find out that a beloved gay icon has died of AIDS. AIDS is a disease which effects an individual's immune system, for which there is no established cure. In the s and early 90s, several famous lgbtq+ people contracted the disease. Unfortunately, many of these individuals died due to AIDS related complications.

The Queen front man was diagnosed with AIDS in He did not publicly discuss his diagnosis until November 22, , when he released a remark confirming his illness. Less than two days later, Mercury died due to complications with the disorder. His longtime partner Jim Hutton, who was also diagnosed with HIV, was at his side at the time of his death.

A Hollywood producer once called him "Prince Charming" – a fitting nickname for a human whose life seemed, for most of it, favor a storybook. Rock Hudson started steaming up the screen in the s, and continued for nearly four decades, in more than 60 films. But today he's perhaps overlooked, said documentary director Stephen Kijak.

But now, in his new HBO documentary, "Rock Hudson: All That Heaven Allowed," Kijak explores Hudson's whole life, as a global star, and closeted gay man. In the documentary, Hudson's friend Ken Jillson said, "Our social life with him was very private. We didn't go out to restaurants. We would go to Rock's house. It was called the Castle."

For many, June represents the month of pride; a period to celebrate, train and communicate all that is homosexual, gay and fabulous. Although today entity gay isnt much of a deal, back in the 50s it was a dangerous label to have. Throughout history, thousands own lost their lives because they were labeled as gay or queer and many lived out their true sexual preferences in secrecy. As its almost the end of Pride month, I wanted to contain a look at some celebrities from the golden age of Hollywood who were gay, or at least thats what the rumours said. Its hard to know if all these celebrities, and of course many more, were truly gay, but I wanted to share a several stories just so see how far weve come. Glad pride everyone.
